3 Kinds Of Welding
There are a lot of metal fabrications processes. One of them is welding. Welding uses high heat generated by a welding machine to melt two or more pieces of material together. When they cool, the separate pieces are fused together into one solid piece using a weldment. Generally, welding is only used on thermoplastics and different kinds of metal, but in rare circumstances, wood can be welded as well. There are different kinds of welding services, and each has its own pros and cons to work well within its parameters.
Arc Welding
Arc welding is also called stick welding. It is one of the most basic kinds of welding, although it can take some time to get good at doing it. This kind of welding doesn't require a lot of equipment. If this is something that you want to do as a hobby, then you should be able to find a good stick welding setup that you can use at your house. The setup will use electricity to melt the consumable electrode so that it sticks to the workpiece and joins everything together.
MIG Welding
MIG stands for metal inert gas. This kind of welding is a good one for beginners to start out with. The welding gun has a wire electrode that is also consumable. The machine creates an arc of electricity that melts the electrode and creates a weld pool. That pool is what causes the metal pieces to join. The entire process is surrounded by an inert gas that is also produced from the nozzle of the welding gun. The gas protects the weld as it is being created and helps the process along.
TIG Welding
Tungsten inert gas is another form of welding. Instead of using a consumable electrode, a TIG welding setup uses an electrode made out of tungsten. The arc of electricity comes out of the electrode and hits any flux or filler metal along with the pieces getting welded. The entire process is shielded by an inert shielding gas which helps to prevent oxidization or contamination from the environment.
There are a number of kinds of welding. Some of them are very specialized and only used in particular industries because of the tolerances and thinness of the metals being welded. For example, plasma arc welding is primarily used in the aerospace industry because it can weld the pieces together without warping the very thin metal. Other kinds are very general and can be used in a number of fields.
