Three Reasons Why You Would Choose Plastic Injection Molding For Plastic Production Over Other Options
There are any number of ways of manufacturing plastic products and plastic components. Extruding is one, but plastic injection molding is another. Poured molds that remain solid and not hollow objects is a third. Here is why you would choose the plastic injection process over all others.
The Process Is Rapid and Precise
Think of needles injecting medicine. You worry about it hurting, but the injection takes literally a couple of seconds, and then it is over. The same holds true for injection molding. The molten plastic is injected into spaces within a mold inside the injection molding machine. The plastic is flash-cooled, and the products are complete. The only other thing that needs to be done after this is to trim small bits of excess plastic away from the molded products.
You Want Hollow Products
Sometimes a solid chunk of plastic is not the answer to a product-production problem. When you want hollow plastic products, you use an injection molding machine to create two halves of the same product, inject the molten plastic to make the halves, and then seal the halves together before they are cooled completely. No holes to drill, and no separate molds needed to complete projects of this sort.
You Have a Tall Order
Besides being faster and more precise, the injection molding option works exceptionally well for large orders. If your large order frequently happens to be a repeating order, then the injection molding process is even better. The molds used in the machine can be saved and reused again and again for however many products you need.
Custom Molds for Solid Products Are Too Bulky, and Extruding May Not Be Precise Enough
Singular molds used to create one product at a time are inefficient for mass production. They also tend to produce solid plastic pieces that may be too heavy or too bulky. Extruding processes may not be precise enough. It is akin to pushing modeling dough through a shape toy and getting a long strip of the same item that has to be specially cut to size. Neither of these options would be good for hollow items needed en masse and frequently refilling orders. The plastic injection process, on the other hand, fits these production needs just right.
